Fagerhult commits to Science Based Targets initiative
The climate change and today’s energy crises challenge us all to act anew and the need for energy-efficient and sustainable lighting solutions is increasing. Knowledge and clear targets are needed to act wisely and in the right direction. Consequently, we now take an important step on our sustainability journey by committing to Science Based Targets together with our sister companies within the Fagerhult Group.
With the good light in focus, we have refined and clarified our sustainability promise – by reason of protecting the prospects of future generations and the planet. In line with Fagerhult's vision 'Light for better living', we have defined two overall sustainability targets to guide our operations towards a brighter future.
- We shall be the leading developer of lighting solutions that support well-being and creativity.
- We have committed to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), thereby setting targets to achieve net-zero emissions from our entire operations in the long term, as well as to reduce our emissions in accordance with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 °C target.
We have conducted thorough life cycle assessments to calculate the environmental impact of our products throughout their lifetime, as well as mapped our greenhouse gas emissions. Based on the knowledge of our own environmental impact, we have committed to Science Based Targets initiative, SBTi, and will adapt and set targets. SBTi is a worldwide initiative that enables companies to have ambitious targets for emissions reduction in line with the latest climate research. Now, a process will follow where we will set both short-term and long-term targets and have them validated by SBTi.
– We want to be industry-leading in working towards a more sustainable future and we are now taking a big step in the right direction. By committing to Science Based Targets, we are taking responsibility for both minimising our climate impact and increasing our transparency, says Niclas Thulin, Sustainability Manager, Fagerhult.
Our sustainability promise also includes long-term targets in four priority action areas; Circular solutions, Energy efficiency, Pure materials, and Conscious production. The objectives have been formulated in accordance with the UN’s global goals for sustainable development, and for a brighter future we think long-term, challenge ingrained thought patterns, and view circularity as the only straight way forward. The demand for reused luminaires is increasing and with a circular mindset, we can renew, rebuild, and upgrade existing lighting solutions within the Fagerhult concept Re:Furbish.
By committing to SBTi and continuously working towards clear targets, we are taking steps towards a sustainable future – for good light through the years
