Akademiska sjukhuset, The Uppsala University Hospital, is Sweden's oldest university hospital, established as early as 1708. They have a long tradition of being first. Sweden´s first nurse was trained here and Nobel Prize winners have researched here. We are happy to have helped them with new RGB-lighting in their new operation rooms.

Today, the number of key hole surgery is increasing, due to the less impact on the patient compared to open surgery. But all operation rooms are built in order to be able to handle both operational techniques. The coloured light, however, is only used when key hole surgery is performed.

With a Fagerhult RGB-solution, we can create the conditions for both key hole surgery and open surgery. Intense monochromatic green and red light "empties" the sensitivity of our eyes and our ability to receive more pulses in the same spectrum. If one colour is "depleted" the others take over and create the risk of "imagery" (metamerism) when the eye is moved to something white.

Fagerhult's solution minimizes the risk of misinterpretation of visual information, which is vital in an operation room. Orange complement light works as a work light for other staff and as a complement to the green light. The combination of green and orange reduces the risk of imagery and visual misinterpretation. Above the patient's head end is white light with high colour rendering at low levels. This is to be able to see changes in the patient's face/skin colour.

The placement is crucial to achieve a successful result with the lighting. The RGB-luminaires must be placed along the walls of the room, in order to give sufficient contrast enhancement to the screens.
