PostNL has been around for 200 years and is the market leader in the Netherlands for the distribution of mail and packages and e-commerce services. Due to the strong growth of the e-commerce market, the number of packages to be delivered has increased considerably in recent years. PostNL therefore decided to redesign the logistics infrastructure. The old network (4 sorting centres and 37 distribution centres) have been replaced by 23 depots.
When designing the industrial buildings for PostNL, particular attention has to be paid to efficiency and safety. Sustainable construction also had high priority when designing the distribution centres for PostNL.
In 2016, PostNL was the first logistics company in the Netherlands to successfully have the sustainable performance of two of its buildings certified with the BREEAM-NL In-Use sustainability label. This puts PostNL at the forefront of the sector. The distribution centre in Nieuwegein (largest with 9.400 m2) got the BREEAM-NL Nieuwbouw Excellent Certificate in 2017, and more recently the Venlo, Apeldoorn, Amsterdam and Almere establishments got the Outstanding Certificate.
Important elements to get BREEAM certified is sustainable use of materials, LED lighting, solar panels and gasless construction. Fagerhult was asked by installer Lomans to participate in this large project.
Recently, we’ve just finished the distribution centre in Tilburg. Get an impression by watching the video (external link).
This project not only consisted in lighting the large warehouse part of the Distribution Centres, but also the Offices and annexing rooms.
Fagerhult made a very lean, technical and efficient light plan and this is being implemented in all the different centres. Fagerhult is proud to be involved in this vast project: 15 done so far, more to go.
